Welcome To The Jungle is Great for Job Hunting—But It’s Failing at This One Thing

Welcome to the Jungle (WTTJ) makes job hunting easy, but its tracking system falls short. There’s no way to mark rejected applications, track ghosted responses, or log declined offers—key features that would make it a true job tracker. In this post, I break down what’s missing and propose a smarter way to keep track of job applications.

As you may or may not know, ya girl is on the job hunt… HEAVY. One of my go-to job boards is Welcome to the Jungle, formerly known as Otta. It’s an interactive platform where you can swipe through job matches based on your profile.

I love how easy it makes finding jobs, but when it comes to actually tracking them? That’s where things start falling apart.

The Problem: Job Tracking is Incomplete

Right now, WTTJ lets you:

  • Save jobs to apply to later

  • Mark when you’ve applied to a job

  • Track when you’re interviewing

  • Mark when you’ve accepted an offer

That sounds useful—until you realize what’s missing.

There’s No Way to Track Rejections or Ghosted Applications

If I apply for a job and don’t get it, there’s no way to log what happened.

  • Did the company reject me?

  • Did I go through multiple interviews but never get an offer?

  • Did they just ghost me?

WTTJ only tracks applications that are still active, but knowing which jobs didn’t work out is just as important. Otherwise, I could end up reapplying to companies that already turned me down.

One way to fix this is by adding a Closed Applications section where jobs can be categorized based on outcome:

  • Rejected – If the company denied the application

  • No Response – If they ghosted me

  • Interviewed, No Offer – If I made it through interviews but didn’t get the job

This keeps everything organized without cluttering the main job tracker.

The “Move” Feature is Confusing

WTTJ uses a “Move” button to update a job’s status, but the options don’t always make sense.

If a job is under “Interviewing”, why am I still seeing choices like:

  • Saved Jobs

  • Application Started

  • Applied

At that point, the only relevant options should be:

  • Offer Received

  • Interviewed, No Offer

  • No Response After Interview

  • Withdrew Application

Same thing with the Offer Received section—there’s no way to mark that I declined an offer. If the company reaches out again months later, I might not even remember why I passed.

No Way to Track Declined or Withdrawn Offers

Let’s say I get an offer but decide not to accept it. Right now, WTTJ has an “Offer Accepted” section, but what if I didn’t take the job?

There’s no way to log declined offers, which means:

  • I might forget that I already turned down a company

  • If the same company reaches out again, I won’t remember why I passed

This could be fixed by expanding the Offer Accepted section to include:

  • Left Voluntarily

  • Laid Off

  • Contract Ended

Having these options makes tracking past offers way more useful.

A Smarter Way to Track Jobs

The “My Jobs” section could be much more intuitive with a few small changes:

  • A Closed Applications section for rejections and ghosted apps

  • More logical Move options based on the job’s actual status

  • Better tracking for job offers, whether accepted, declined, or withdrawn

I put together some quick mockups to show what this could look like.
